: If you remember Oxyd . . .

you will be delighted to hear that although this game was discontinued by its creators more than ten years ago, it is available for download (as freeware, since it is now in the public domain), from a French site called Le Grenier du Mac. The URL is http://www.grenier-du-mac.net/

Indeed, this site has collected more than 300 of the most popular games of the 80's and early 90's which have been abandoned and are no longer commercially available. Some of these can be played only under systems 6 or 7, but many have been updated to run under Tiger and the Classic emulation of system 9. (Among these are, for instance, Lode Runner, both in b&w and in its much improved colour v. 2, as well as the primitive Stunt Copter and the very interesting, if simple, experiment in real 3D animation that was Stella Obscura.)

The site has several versions of Oxyd, including v. 3.9, which if I remember correctly was the last to be published. This site's copy of v. 3.9 has been patched to avoid the necessity of inserting secret codes to ascend from a lower to a higher level of play. The download includes a ReadMe which explains how to do so. (The same can be accomplished with the earlier versions, but not as simply).

If you do not remember Oxyd, it must be because you never played it. If so—unless, perhaps, you require explosions and/or firearms in order to find a game exciting—you have a treat in store!
