Hi all,

The USB 2.0 on my PowerMac G5 is giving me lots of trouble when synching with my iPod nano. Long story short, it is defective (at least when it comes to iPods) and also out of warranty (so can't have it repaired, at least for free anyways). So the best solution I have right now is to purchase a USB 2.0 PCI card for my Mac (or stick with USB 1.1 on the Cinema Display).

Now my question is, what card do you recommend/use? I hear some cards are giving users some sleep issues (when devices are connected).

Thanks!

i have a port authority usb 2.0 card from tigerdirect.ca...it works, gives me trouble occasionally. but the trouble has to do with my machine, not the card itself. so anyway. try that card. it cost 26.99 new i think? i dono, look for sonnet, they are top quality mac products, but also top cost.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll look into that.

Has anyone tried the one from IOGEAR or Lacie? They both go for about US$20 (relatively cheap!).

@ gnatsum..

Can you if that card uses the NEC chipset? I think you should be able to see in System Profiler.
You don't have to use any drivers or anything when using that card right? And by any chance, have you used it with an iPod (if so, has it given you any trouble)? Also, when there are devices connected to the USB ports (like an iPod), and you put your Mac to sleep, does it wake up properly?

Thanks

I recently tried the IOGear in a MDD. It was recognized fine, but it was intermittent.

I returned it and got the Lacie. It works perfectly.

Check if it's compatible with your G5 PCI slots.

Quite a few PCI cards at Tiger Direct including one for $12 after rebates!
However, I'm not sure how well they work with Macs.

I bought a IOGEAR one from BestBuy for $20, but it's going into my old PC clunker since my iMac G4 is slotless.

Haven't gotten around to trying it but it says it works for both Mac and PC versus those at Tiger Direct which don't mention Mac compatibility.
