Although this has been discussed in another thread in general, has anyone else had a spontaneous screen failure. I picked this quote up from ars Technica-
"Mr. Peterson said the screen cracked on his device after he sat down with it in the front pocket of his pants, as he had done many times with other iPods he owns without damage occurring"
Exactly the same thing happened to me. I had purchase my black Nano (which I love) about a week after it was released. It's great industrial design, but one would think that durability in everyday use would be an important aspect of the overall design. Anyways, I'm waiting for my empty box so I can ship it back to Apple to replace.

Apple have said that they had a batch of bad screens that could break easily, so you probably just had one of the bad batch. I've kept mine in my pocket a lot and haven't had any trouble so far. (Knock on wood)

I wonder how much truth there is to that? The problem is that "everyone" wants their screens replaced. Whether there is some sort of genuine fault or they dropped it down two flights of stairs.

I'd never be good on Apple's customer service line "Your screen broke? Well obviously it didn't happen by itself did it?"

LOL! I'd be the same way.. with the way the nano's scratch, people probably make **** up all the time just to get a free replacement without scratches.

True- What is naturally wear and tear? You would expect some marking....but in my instance I have the nano in a silicon sleeve with a screen protector sitting in my pocket all day. Took it out and lo and behold a big black blotch across the screen and when I powered it up you can see a crack on the screen.

I don't understand. What exactly is happening to the Nano screen, when it's in your pocket?

I had it in its sleeve turned off in my pocket (you need to put it somewhere). I would suggest from this experience that although I don't remember at any point bumping myself, thereby impacting the sceen and breaking it, this is a possibility. Therefore, if you place your Nano in your pocket, place it screen side in......or don't carry it in a location where it could get the screen bumped. Of course, it could be the failure that they talked about in ars Technica since it was one of the first sold. All I know is that I took it out of my pocket looked at the screen and saw the big black blotch....complete surprise.
