I'm having some trouble connecting my new iMac (running Tiger) to my old win2K machine. I just want to copy the old files from the pc. I'm using an ethernet cable between the two machines, no router. Both machines are seeing each other and on the win2k machine I can access the folders in my mac's home folder. On the imac, I select Network in the Finder and I see the pc there, but when I click on it I get a 'connect' option which tries and tries to connect but cannot. I have enabled sharing on a number of directories but they never show up on the mac. I also have Norton Internet Security 2005 running, but I've shut it down temporarily and I still can't connect. I can copy files from the PC to the iMac, but I can't grab them from the iMac. Any ideas?

Thanks
Mick.

I also have problems networked to Windows XP. I think it is my cheap wireless PCI network card though. I get ridiculously low file transfer speeds between the XP system and my Mac Mini. The XP system seems to have no problem connecting with other machines or the Internet though. I resorted to using FTP to transfer between the two machines, decent speed now, but a lot of Time Outs and Disconnects.

I use my old system running XP in a closet for Bittorrent and use RDC to control it through the Mac - also works OK, but disconnects after a while. The problem become more frequent the longer I run the XP machine without rebooting it.

Not looking for PC advice ;) just detailing my experience. I am a PC Technician by trade. I got sick of taking my work home with me, so I traded my PC for a Mac recently.
