I hadn't heard any major announcement of any kind, but a while back, MSN Music landed an exclusive deal with digital music holdouts, Metallica.

This one however, really surprised me:

Radiohead, signed with no one else but MSN Music.

Great group. Love the music... too bad it's not available on iTMS.

It may very well have been their label rather than the band themselves that made this decision, its hard to say. Still, a sad development for Radiohead.

I'm pretty sure Radiohead is label-less (http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001017730) at the moment.

Very sad to see with Radiohead. :(

Yes, but when a group and label part ways, the label retains distribution (and publishing, if any) of all albums previously recorded under their agreement... unless the label agrees to selling their catalogue. Only new albums going forward (like the one refernced in the Billboard article) will be under new terms with whomever.

It would be the same with Disney and the five films that Pixar will have completed under their agrteement. Even if Pixar chooses not to renew their distribution agreement, I believe that Disney will STILL retain control over distribution of the first five Pixar films.

Could these moves by the labels be the beginning of a campaign to marginalize the iTMS, given the hellish experience that lies before them as they try to sponge more money off of iTMS (and other stores') clients??
