I have three .wmv files. How can I view them without using WMP? Tried VLC and it couldn't open them. Can I convert them to Quicktime?

If VLC is having a problem with them, then generally, I don't think they will play. The best you could hope for is using WMP. Other than that, there are hundreds of codecs out there, that don't work with the Mac. These codecs honestly are terrible, and shouldn't be available. I don't know why people can't just stay within regular codecs that are universal.. but alas, welcome to the world of Windows

If it doesn't work, there should be an error message.

what is it ?

If your movie happened to be WMV3....you're out of luck as VLC doesn't even read it on a mac.
send it to a PC first, have it reformated into something NOT microsoft, then you'll be able to read it.

You can download wmv:mov for mac made by flip4mac. The demo only allows you to view half your files but if it is a plug in for quicktime that allows you to view and export windows media.

if it's some of the latest windows media player codecs you're stuck for now, ffmpeg is generally the fastest to get the codecs into non windows applications I've found from the past. You might also try mplayer for OSX (which uses ffmpeg core).
