Can anyone advise how to increase the sound of the ringing in iChat AV when somebody is calling you. Skypes rings loud enough like a real phone but iChat cannot be heard unless you are right in front of the computer

Well, I can't help you with the ring tone volume (I know what you mean though, it is pretty soft), but you could click on the "Speak text" box in the Audio Invitation portion of the Alerts preferences. Next to that button is a slider which will ajust the volume. It's not a ring, but at least you'll be able to hear it. (For kicks, you could try resetting the text to read "ring ring ring ring ring" ;-)
