: Is Matrix Reloaded gonna suck?
dibenga Jan 28th, 2003, 09:43 AM Not being a fan of Football, I missed the original broadcast of the New Matrix trailer.
So I just saw it today here Matrix Home page (http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/) click on the 'Superbowl' area.
So I guess I am here to see what you all thought of this new glimpse into the film we all waiting for. Personally I was disapointed with the visuals of the fight scene. They looked obviously computer generated. Unlike the first film.
Seeing kenu flying through the air was a little lame as well. Sort of a 'it's a job for Neo!'/ superman kinda thing.
I am still excited but this is the first time I felt scared that this might actually be a sucky film...
What do you all think?!
elmer Jan 28th, 2003, 10:05 AM I have not seen the trailer and have not read your post. However, I strongly believe Matrix Reloaded will be the best movie of all time.

Strongblade Jan 28th, 2003, 03:17 PM Personally, I don't have high expectations for Matrix Reloaded or the "Threequel" later this year. Even the first one was very "gimmicky"
That said, i enjoyed watching them immensly. They are a fun watch and the SFX are very well done. On top of that, they are gonna pull in big box-office moulah.
Story-wise, the first one was so-so. And having "Canoe" Reeves as the star... well, He does play a confused white guy well. All that practise as Ted "Theodore" Logan has helped...

MacDoc Jan 28th, 2003, 03:42 PM I will probably get thoroughly flamed for this so I've got my Sunday asbestos suit on already. tongue.gif
I was not a real fan of the original Matrix once it got past the the first hour ...... it was kind of neat up until that point. Then the usual shoot em up started and it just was lame.
thirdeyevision Jan 28th, 2003, 03:56 PM Ditto.
Over hyped, the first one was just an overly-stylized-music-video with bullets spraying everywhere and Keanu looking dorky as the saviour
Will I still see the sequel, probably ;)
elmer Jan 28th, 2003, 04:12 PM Ok -
a) Nothing can be over-stylized
b) Neo is a dork and that is cool
c) Ok - maybe it will be the greatest first-half-of-a-movie of all time, followed by an hour to think about it.
d) There is no hype.
e) There is not enough sci-fi in movies.
f) Don't try to flame me, I have my own asbestos jumpsuit. http://www.gamers-forums.com/smilies/otn/blobs/ukliam3.gif
MacGenius Jan 28th, 2003, 05:31 PM I liked the Matrix but I don't want to get my hopes up for the next film.
I jus saw the SB trailer and while its enticing I don't think it will live up to the hype. I'm a very jaged person about beleiving hype, I stay out of the RDF™ as much as I can.
Besides, NEO, uh Keanu, bugs the hell out of me. Everytime I see him "Hi, its me Ted..." goes through my mind. *shudder*
Chealion Jan 28th, 2003, 07:52 PM From watching the SuperBowl ad, it looks really good, a little cheesy in that because hes all powerful you have the Superman rendition of him flying around, but as long as the writers stuck to the storyline that was really good in the first one and stay away from trying to make money with only FX it should be OK... As long it doesn't go the way of Episode 1, I'm very happy,... at least the hype isn't insane, as its just bits and pieces and I see that they'll most likely bring around the hype just before it comes out, not years like Star Wars
LOL This was my 1000th post...

d) Isn't there a label on the bottle prohibiting the intake of more than one red pill
e) At the risk of sounding uptight - there's too much glorified-choreographed-violence in films. There is not enough sci-fi in movies.
The rest I'll neglect to avoid a flame war smile.gif
PosterBoy Jan 29th, 2003, 03:59 AM While I am a big fan of The Matrix, I can;t say that it was "good movie". What I can say is that it is the closest thing to live action anime that I have ever seen. The CGI and cinematography (a lot of the techniques were developed for the film) were amazing and the story was not bad either. Also, it is cool that Keanu, Carrie-Anne Moss, Lawrenec Fishburne and Hugo Weaving all actually spent a year learning martial arts so that when you see them fighting on screen, it is actually them fighting on screen even if there were a few wires involved.
All of that said, i think that if they were produced as a trilogy (like the Wachowski Brothers had originally planned) then the 2nd and 3rd would probably be better than they are going to be. Some of the CGI shots in the trailer look kind of, er, unfinished, so I am hoping that they will be cleaned up a bit more.
Also, while agent smith is my favorite character from the original, I am not so sure about him being back in the new movies. Not really sure which avenue they went with bringing him back either. Although, the scene where Neo has to fight 100+ copies of Agent Smith does hold promise.

Another Matrix? Oh well.
Although I enjoy SF&F, I also enjoy movies such as "About Schmidt".
Romances don't do it for me, nor do "in da hood" movies. Biker Boyz? Pass.
The director's cut of Blade Runner? Absolutely :D
MaxPower Jan 30th, 2003, 01:08 PM Keep in mind that with the CGI, the movie is still unfinished. What we saw on the Superbowl was a teaser to give us a taste of what is to come.
I remember when the Two Towers teaser was posted, GOllum looked incredibly fake. Once I saw it in the theater I couldn't beleive the improvements that were made.
Time will tell as to what Reloaded will bring.....

The next sequel: "Reloaded to the Max"
:D
As an aside, what a stupid title. They realy couldn't come up with anything better?
Granted, it is a competitive market out there for stupid movie titles but...
In some instances one can really judge the book by the cover.

Cynical Critic Jan 30th, 2003, 04:37 PM The Matrix was never a quality and intelligent movie. However, it had oodles of style. All the other film and pop culture imitations demonstrate its eye-catching style. My concern that now Keanu isn't confused (à la Bill & Ted) his poor acting might stand out more. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Plus the theme of questioning reality is immediate in the first movie - although it is somewhat destroyed by the end. I wonder if they can maintain the surprises or are both the sequels going to be purely stylized action flics?!? tongue.gif
MaxPower Jan 30th, 2003, 04:49 PM Cynical Critic has a point. The Matrix series is bottom line "Eye Candy". Now a days, it's good to go to a movie and shut your brain off for 2 1/2 hours and be entertained.
I've read on rumor sites that the SFX in Reloaded is going to be ten times better than the first and that other movies will take years to even come close to the new techniques developed for this film (think the wire fighting that was copied in Charlie's Angels and Crouching Tiger).
I just hope that the action sequences will not be rehashed versions of old. Although the Highway chase does look wild.
Cynical Critic Jan 30th, 2003, 10:27 PM Thanks MaxPower.
Apparently, 2/3s of the next Matrix movies budget went to a 17 minute fight scene. This is one of those word of mouth rumours but it wouldn't shock me if it were true.
By the way, does your name have anything to do with the Simpsons episode where Homer changes his name?

I knew someone would ask me that sooner or later. Lynden is a little community about 10 - 15 mins NW of Hamilton. Feel sorry for me though. I can only get 56K Dial Up!!!!! The joys of living in the Country.

MaxPower Jan 31st, 2003, 10:53 PM What I would like to know is what is everyone's thoughts on the Hulk trailer we saw on Super Bowl?
Cynical Critic Feb 1st, 2003, 03:18 AM I'm a huge fan or computer graphics and their use doesn't bug me like some critics. However, in the trailer, Hulk was too blatantly rendered. Maybe in the theatre I'll be able to suspend disbelief, but it seems harder to hide Hulk's computer-generated figure than, say, that of Spider-Man.
I used to watch the old Hulk TV show and it was fine when I was a kid. But I'm sceptical about this new movie. I'm crossing my fingers that the script is gripping enough to pull me in.
Chealion Aug 13th, 2003, 05:43 PM Commerative Post: # 2000. (Same thread that I made post number 1000) O_O Nearly 2 years for the first 1000, and 6 months, 17 days for the next 1000.
Has anyone heard about anything about Revolutions? Its supposed to be out in November and I've heard nothing.
dibenga Aug 13th, 2003, 08:46 PM Doesn't it seem strange they havn't even posted a teaser trailer for Revolutions yet?
(Happy 2000th post Chealion!)

MannyP Design Aug 13th, 2003, 09:13 PM Re:Hulk
Apparently the Hulk that appeared in the SuperBowl trailer is not the same one you will/have see(n) in the movie. Ang Lee to ILM's artists to task once the world (fans) saw what Hulk was going to look like -- they received a lot of negative feedback over it (I believe MacAddict had an article that mentions this).
They went back and worked on the overall look of the renders and it seems they've done a much better job.
Chealion Aug 14th, 2003, 01:23 AM Thankx mannyp!!!
It feels special knowing my 1000th and 2000th post happened in the same thread. smile.gif
