: Airport help

It took me hours, but I finally managed to wirelessly network my mac and pc.

I have an old G3 iBook, and because I heard the airport cards were discontinued, I rushed out to buy one last week. And then I heard there was no need for me to buy a wireless router, as I could just put a wireless card into my PC and as the PC is connected to my cable modem, I could use the PC to share the connection.

Like I said, it took me hours, but I managed to do it.

My one question is this:

Why is it so hit and miss for my iBook to connect to my PC? 9 times out of 10 I will get the "There was an error connecting to the Airport <networkname>"?

I've always found the scenario of using one computer to provide the internet connection for others to be flaky at best... even Mac to Mac.

The purchase of the router would have eliminated this problem.

I've actually been using my desktop to share my internet connection for over two years and has provided me with NO problems whatsoever. Slight niggles before with OS9 and X together but that was with a very very early version of OSX and that was primarily the sharing of the printer hooked up to my desktop. Now stable as can be.
