Ummmm......why are you using IE?

Some people are tied through habit to old software... still, I also support the recommendation that a switch to Safari is in order.

Additionally, that eMac should be updated to OSX 10.2.8 (free from Apple's website, just use the Software Update feature in System Preferences)

If your friend is determine to stick with MSIE, be sure that you got all of the preference files - they're often not obviously named.

thanks for the comments.

anyone else?

I myself use safari, but there is definetly some sites that it does not handle properly.
my friend used to use safari and switched back for that reason.

to answer the upgrade question:
We both use 10.2.6 because 10.2.8 was crap!
I had nothing but problems with it. Kernal Panics and desktop icons that couldnt be dragged. Im not risking it again. 10.2.6 works great.

Hm... I thought that the weird-o, freaky problems with 10.2.8 were resolved by using the "combo updater" (the really big one) rather than the smaller "just change what's new" updater...

All I can say is that 10.2.8 has been rock-solid on my 300mhz iBook since the day the update was released (I always use the combo updaters).

One question: Have you tried creating a new user account to test whether it's MSIE inherently, or just a problem with your friend's account (either in prefs or the program itself, or a conflict with some other resident app)?

And what about repair disk privileges and update prebindings? (See disk utility).
