i have some commercials that a friend put together for an upcoming project, but the file size is huge...like 738MB huge...i was wondering if there is anything i can do to shrink the file size to at least 700MB so i can fit the file on a cd to take with me to school. is there any software out there that will do it? or can i do it from quicktime pro itself? losing a bit of quality makes no difference to me

can you not just stuff the file and then unstuff it at school? That way you will not lose any quality and it will deffinetly fit on a CD if you stuff it.

If the files are mpegs or other compressed video then stuffing will make little or no difference in file size, maybe 1M per 100 at most. You will have to recompress your file at a lower bitrate using an mpeg decoder-encoder. There are some great tools at http://homepage.mac.com/rnc/. It may take a bit to figure out but I think it's what you're looking for. It's free too. smile.gif

You should be able to fit 795mb of mpeg data on a 700mb CD-R.

thanks guys...toast won't let me burn anymore than 702 on an 700MB disc though

Do you happen to have QuickTime Pro?

If so, select File> Export> Then choose Movie to Quick Time Movie. Hit "Options" and fiddle with the compression.

It all depends on the type of movie you are compressing (or I could be more specific). You need to compress more or drop the frame rate, or delete the audio, or...

If you have iMovie (doesn't everyone?). Drag the file into the bin. Place it in the timeline. Choose > File > Share (export) then choose the compression / crop scheme you want. "Web" really crunches it down.
