Correct me if I'm wrong:

Unit 0 - Master
Unit 1 - Slave

If the above is true, according to the Profiler, the hard drive in my iMac is set to Master (Unit 0), while the broken CD-ROM drive is set to Slave (Unit 1). I'm going to be purhasing a DVD-ROM drive (slot-loading) to replace it (Apple ID: 661-2225) - now, in case my replacement drive isn't set to Slave - how do you set the drive to Slave? Do slot-loading drives has something special, i.e, no jumpers? (there are different than normal drives). Any help would be greatly appreicated.

The last thing I want is to boot up my iMac (after completely taking it apart and rebuilding it), just to get an error because both my new DVD-ROM drive and hard drive are both set to Master. tongue.gif

The drive you buy will have instructions, often printed on a label right on the drive, but whatever, on what the jumper settings should be for various configurations and options.

Don't worry about jumpers till you get the new drive; it will be there somewhere in the documentation (or at the maker's website, sometimes you have to go there if you buy a bare OEM unit).

You will need needle-nose pliers or tweezers to remove/replace the jumpers if necessary. Virtually every drive ships new set to either Master or Drive Select, so chances are you will only have to confirm the setting and go.

Don't forget to 'test' before putting it back together. How many times have I made that mistake? tongue.gif
