I bought a samsung scd71 digital camcorder and it only works with imovie in OS 9.2.2 and not OSX...is this the dumbest thing ever? why is this? you would think it would be vica versa with OSX having the newest drivers? in OSX imovie says no camera connected in OS 9 it came right up saying camera connected with options to import etc...thanks for any help...cheers, Mark

iMovie 3's compatability chart shows that the Samsung camera(s) are completely devoid of any compatability. Chances are, it was luck iMovie was able to interact with any Samsung product prior to version 3.
My guess is: Don't blame Apple... blame the manufacturer.I'd say it probably has more to do with their implemenation of Firewire or their way of developing the electronics to control the camera device that may not be standard.
Having said that, try doing a search for Video capture software. There may be something out there that will allow you to grab video off your cam... try Avid's Free DV software.

I am not blaming apple at all..I just find it odd that OS9 works and OSX doesn't..it's the same firewire bus/cable? I will look into your suggestions! thanks a lot, Mark

iMovie does have a limited range of cameras supported. Final Cut Pro offers a much broader range and allows you to use a generic driver. I didn't know Samsung made a digital camcorder. Take it back and stick with something from Apples list. I mean, what good is this camera if you can't hook it up? If price is a big deal, try JVC. They are the lowest price cams around and work fine with iMovie.
