I just bought 256 MB of RAM off of ebay, and put it into my 900 MHz ibook the other day. Are there any tests I can do, or is there any way to tell if the RAM I installed is working. Thanks

Go to your apple menu at the top left of your scren and choose About This Mac. When the dialogue box appears choose More Info. After you choose more info you will see Apple System Profiler at the top of the screen. Click the little triangle beside Memory Overview so the triangle points down. Listed there it will tell you how many RAM modules you have installed and how large they are. If they are recognized consider then working unless you are experiencing crashes, odd behavior, etc.

As an aside you can click the other triangles to face down to check what else is in your machine. Click the tabs at the top to see hard drives, applications etc. Good luck.

Hey thanks, I knew about the system profiler, but I am just curious if there is any other way or any diagnostic-type of protocol to see if the RAM is OK.

Did you get the Apple hardware test CD with the ibook? Just put the CD in the drive and restart holding down the C key. The tests on the hardware disk check the ram.

if the ram is incorrect your system will not boot and will halt when starting up. if it does go, then the ram is recognised and usable by your mac.
