Hi:

I've got the above mentioned VST CDRW drive (4x4x24)-- it works flawlessly in Mac OS 9.2.2 but when i try using it under OS 10.2.8... i get a media error -- it functions for reading cds... but i just can't burn with it... the drive inside is a RICOH drive... when i checked VST's web site... they say that they don't support the drive in OS X -- how do i make the thing burn!!!??

they say that they don't support the drive in OS X -- how do i make the thing burn!!!??If they directly tell you they don't support burning under Mac OS X, then why in the world are you attempting to burn under Mac OS X? Unless you think they're lying to you, or something along those lines...

Toast might make the drive burn under Mac OS X, but if your drive isn't supported under OS X, don't assume you can just suddenly make it supported. To have native burning under OS X, VST would have to write and release the required drivers for their drive and Mac OS X.

i've read about people changing the 'drive plug-in' number in order to fool Toast or any other software as to the true identity of the burner...

i was wondering if anyone here has done that...

also... the actual drive number RW8040 is listed as being compatible on various pages with iTunes... i was hoping apple would have included drivers for the drive... considering it's being used and was built for a Powerbook G3 Firewire...

Have you checked at xlr8yourmac.com to see if others have had success with this drive (check under drive compatability)?

the drive inside is a RICOH drive I'm not sure if it will work in OSX 10.2.8, But you could try
looking for a hacked plug-in at www.xlr8yourmac.com (http://www.xlr8yourmac.com)
Just do a search.
