I am thinking about upgrading the 5400rpm drive that comes with my early 2011 MBP to a 7200rpm HDD because I need more storage space and could use a bit of a speed bump.
The two drives that I have looked into are:
HGST Travelstar 7K750 750GB 6Gb/s 16MB cache 7200rpm
and
Seagate Momentus XT 750GB (hybrid) 6Gb/s 32MB cache 7200rpm
In a few other threads there are horror stories of Seagate HDD early failure. Can I trust the new Seagate hybrid HDD? Is the Travelstar any good?

Some very informative ones. If you search Macbook in the reviews you can get more relevant information.
Apparently the Seagate Hybrid 32MB SSD cache can significantly speed up some routine tasks. Frequently used applications run much faster and system boot is reduced by half.

I use a Hitachi 1TB drive in my MacBook's optical bay and it has been great for me.

i owned 2 seagate hybrid drives...had a 320 then a 500. got the first one the day they were available in canada. while they werent mind blowing they were a marked improvement from a standard 7200rpm drive, not only in performance but also in lack of noise and vibration.
i know easily 15+ people who have all been running them for up to a few years now...have yet to see an issue with one
they are decent performance for the $$

I have two Seagate drives that are more than three years old. No problem. It's just that I keep reading more of these horror stories with Seagate drives in the last few years. I switched to Western Digital for my last two drives. I might give the Seagate 750GB hybrid HDD a try.
