Hi,

I'm having a small problem, purely aesthetic, dealing with the Downloads folder on my dock. It's not showing the correct icon for a lot of the files I download.

But when I click on the folder, it shows the icon:

This is happing on my iMac 10.6 and on my MBP 10.8. Not really sure what the problem is, but would be nice if there was a quick and easy solution to this.

Can't say for sure, but it looks like it is set to be displayed as a stack, not a folder.

Right click on your downloads folder, and in the "Display As" section, try selecting "Folder" if it isn't already.

I think that's what it is. It is trying to show you what's been downloaded.

Oh, but I like seeing the icon for the most recently downloaded file. When I changed it from Stack to Folder, back to Stack, it worked, temporarily. But then when I downloaded another file, the same issue arose (doesn't display the correct icon). Any ideas?

What exactly are you expecting to see that you aren't seeing?

Well, referring back to my original post, I would like to see the .dmg icon (the icon with the hard drive) that is available when I click on the Downloads folder to also be available on "standby" (not sure what the word is, but when it's not in use, in other words - not the plan icon).

I'm afraid that didn't fix the problem. :(

Try steviewhy's screen shot settings but change 'fan' to the 'List' settngs. Works for me (SL 10.6.8) even though I usually bypass using the 'Downloads' folder.

I like "fan" mode though. :(
