The bizarre part is that this claim was substantiated....

Looks like a good case for the plaintiffs. The arresting officer even wrote in his arrest notes that he was profiling them on the basis of having hairy legs; apparently the "Law-and-Order" types see hairy legs as an indication of "hippy sympathies" which is the same thing as being a terrorist!

Why the need for such generalizations? Seems it is a case of one officer from what I read.

This particular case is resulting from the actions of one officer. The thousands that were wrongfully arrested during the G20, and the now well documented instructions given to the police during this event make it a generalizable issue.

What is more tenuous, but still pretty easy to see for anyone who cares to look, is how this heavy-handedness among the police was a manifestation of the character of the political masters giving the marching orders.

No it doesn't. It was the actions of one officer.

There is no evidence of this and an assumption on your part because of your disdain for the current government.

Wonder how you felt about Chretien's comment "For me, pepper, I put it on my plate." re: the 1997 APEC confrontations....

Very much the same; he was a bully and an unmitigated a$$hole in my opinion. I've never had much use for the Liberals anyway... they've always seemed to be power-hungry and lacking integrity.

If one cares to see what occurred in these protests it's quite clear the heavy handedness and abuses of power were certainly, not the actions of one police office that idea is ridiculous.
(I agree with you bryanc in case my quoting you is confusing)

It's still hard to believe what occurred then, and working at the corner of Queen and Spadina, and my office building being one of the buildings the people were corralled against that last night, it's hard to forget what went down.

at the end of the day.. when the G20 summit occurred I packed up the family and we bolted to Niagara Falls for 3 days.. [knowing things were going to be insane ]
Made life easy not to be any where near the centre of turmoil... who ever decided to roam the streets when they were told not too. well, hairy legs or not, were there to stir the pot. Not saying the officer was correct in doing what he / she did. But why be there knowing what was happening.. give the cops a break..

So, what you're saying is, don't exercise your right to free speech and protest peacefully and legally, because you might be thrown to the ground handcuffed and detained in a warehouse for a full day.

Nonsense. I have to strongly disagree with this.

nothing was peacefully or free speech that day..
so if you see a bunch of nut jobs causing havoc - will you stand by and watch or leave and call the cops..
there is a time and place for everything.

There was plenty that was peaceful that day. Don't believe what you saw on TV.

And as we've seen in these kinds of protests, some of the "nut jobs" are agents provocateurs, aka, the same cops who are supposed to serve and protect...

In Chretian's day he would strangle the protester himself!!! I have to admire Chretian for that. He did his own dirty work! :lmao:
