Hi All,

I've been experiencing two issues with my macpro 10.7.4 / 2.66 Quad Core Xeon,

I have two accounts set up. My administrator account for my own work and a guest account, for my nephews/nieces (with parental controls installed). Also I monitor what they do.

Issue:1
After I log out (of either account), and come back to the mac several hours later, all I have is a grey desktop. The login options are gone. Furthermore, my grey background on the login screen keeps rotating like a cube. It will rotate to the right, rotate to the left,

Issue:2
Other issues I have with my login screen is that sometimes i'll come back to the login screen (either the next morning or several hours later) only to find neither login (guest or administrator) is accepting any inputs. I can't type in my password nor can I click on the icons.

For both issues, my resolution is a re-start and it always works.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

Boot off of an external drive and run Disk Utility on your Mac Pro boot drive. Better yet, run Disk Warrior as well.

Running Onyx automated maintenance routines will achieve the same thing in so far as it runs the Disk Utility verify procedure, as well as a SMART check to see if your drive is giving any pre-failure warnings.

Those are good first steps in troubleshooting your Mac Pro.

Im not really sure 'how' to boot off an external drive...but I will run Onyx. Thanks for the reply as it was much appreciated

I hope it works.
