: Bluetooth Mouse.

Transferring my whole family over to Apple. Bad news is I have to deal with Lion. Trying to install a Dynex bluetooth mouse on my father in law's brand new 13 in MBP base model, Lion 10.7.4 everything updated, permissions fixed ect.

Installs fine on my old MBP with Snow Leopard.

Lion gives me a 'device refused connection' error.

An Apple keyboard is recognized, installs and works fine.

Tried with Mountain Lion on every computer I could at the Apple Store. Same thing. The mouse is seen but Lion and Mountain Lion refuse to pair with it.

Tried a current iMac with SL on one partition and Lion on the other. Recognized and paired fine. Booted into the Lion partition and the mouse was already there and worked fine. Are bluetooth pairings written directly to the bluetooth chip?

Deleted the mouse and tried to install it in the Lion partition and it would not pair. So it seems Lion will allow the mouse to be used but will refuse to pair initially with it.

Is there a way to manually pair the mouse by editing the pref pane?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Apple mouse is not an option as moving to the Mac is a big deal for him and a regular mouse with buttons and a scroll wheel will ease the transition.

Why bother fighting with some odd brand Dynex BT mouse that a quick google search shows that it doesn't work or is even supported with many devices, and not only Apple products.

I picked up a Logitech M705 USB wireless mouse from our local Costco store in March that they're still selling for $30.00, and it's been a dream to use and also supported by some local Mac users who also purchased one from my suggestion.

It fast and no delay on wakeup, and its batteries are rated to last 3 1/2 years!!

And the Logitech pref pane to configure/modify some settings works well.

Ditto on the Logitech M705. Picked one up yesterday at Costco for $30 and it works just fine.

Thanks. I'll probably go for that.

I guess bluetooth is a can of worms for Lion+?

Was hoping not to have something extra taking up a USB port.

It's a standard, so it *should* just work. However, some devices don't seem to conform properly, thus causing issues.
