On my old Mac I had a lot of battery cycles and thought this may be why my battery died.

Just bought a new mac and I am wondering which is better, to keep my mac plugged in where ever possible or to let the battery die down.

Apple states: For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time."

From experience, leaving your computer plugged it doesn't really save the battery. Mine seems to have worn out, though it had relatively few cycles on it, because it was plugged in much of the time. Apple recommends the battery be charged and discharged at least once a month.

For the cost of a new battery, it's really not worth tailoring your use around its preservation.

I just use my laptop how I want. If the battery starts to go to ****, then I'll buy another.

At $159 every year or two for an Apple battery, I'ma guess that some people will choose to tailor their practices

The Apple link above didn't work for me, try Apple - Batteries (http://www.apple.com/batteries/)

That was the case with the old-style batteries, but not the new ones. They last far longer.

Before I replaced my MacBook Pro in the fall, the battery life hadn't depreciated much in the 2 years I'd owned it. My current MacBook gets depleted almost daily, and is at 94% health and lasts for several hours.

My 8 month old 15" MPB still has 98% battery health and it has 70 odd cycles on it. I keep it plugged in most of the time as I have two chargers and don't take it out places nearly as much as I intended.

i'm already at 11 cycles after 1 month. I personally have no issue playing for apply to replace it once i find the battery life isn't what I want it to be any more. I just kinda consider that part of the cost of owning a slim computer
