: YouTube, Flash

Two queries this morning.
1. Not having much success downloading YT videos anymore with Safari. I go to the Window/Activity area, and the videos are "fracturing" into segments of 1.7 MB - not the 11 MB or so that I was used to seeing in a full video. Weird. Maybe something's changed.
2. In my System Preferences, I see at the bottom under "Other" - Flash Player, Flip4Mac, Growl, and Perian. I don't recall seeing Flash Player there before. Do I need it? Should it be there?
Thanks.
/M.

Did you happen to upgrade to Mountain Lion overnight? :yikes:

Hey, it's my go-to guy who helped me restore that iPod Touch! Howdy.
No, I have a 2007 MBook, Snow Leopard.

It used to be a must. Not sure anymore.

Anyway, I noticed the same issue a while back. Then I started to see the link "Download video" on many YouTube pages. See the attached screen capture. I am also running Snow Leopard. Safari 5.1.7.

Woa. Don't see that link. I've clicked through a half-dozen videos. Maybe you have a plug-in or something?

The same as what you have ... Flash player, Flip4Mac, Perian.

I also checked randomly half a dozen videos. Each page has the "Download video" link. And I am not on the YouTube HTML5 (http://www.youtube.com/html5/) trial. Is your Safari version 5.1.7?

Hmm. A mystery. Here's what my page looks like:

I'm also not on the HTML trial. Safari's updated. I'm sure SOMEone will resolve this here, as they always do.
Thanks.

Mitch, I figured it out. I went to the same YouTube clip following the URL that you had in your screen capture. There was the "Download video" link. I moved the cursor over the link and saw a reference to the plug-in GlimmerBlocker (http://glimmerblocker.org/). This is an ad blocker for Safari.

GlimmerBlocker has a built-in filter "Site enahncements" that adds "download links and embedded display of attachments". The filter is not enabled by default.

EX-cellent! But ... NOW what? Do I download it? Do I have it and have to uninstall? I'm not terribly savvy, sorry.

EDIT:
I just downloaded Glimmerblocker. We'll see what's what. Thanks!
