I'm looking at picking up Mountain Lion only for the "Dictation" feature.

I was wondering how good and accurate it is?

No idea - won't get to install it until later tonight at the earliest - but be aware that this feature only works when you're connected to the 'net. No offline dictation. Not a problem if you're a desktop user, I guess, but for those of us on the road, it's a caveat.

I tinkered with it a bit when the Golden Master first came out, and it worked pretty well.

What I didn't like is that the recording is sent to Apple for transcription, so you have to be careful what you transcribe. Sensitive information (patient data, trade secrets, etc) may be better left to manual transcription.

So far so good it looks like it works just like the iOS version so there's virtually no difference I'm dictating this as we speak.

That was pretty good it made no mistakes.

Except for the run-on sentence in the second line. :D

I have it set on US english as opposed to UK english. I hope that as has been promised for iOS6 that Canadian english is an option in the future.

Yeah true. I guess you have to say "period".

If you look in the description of OS X Mountain Lion In The Mac App Store, It confirms that Canadian English & French will be coming up in a later OS Update. This confirms what Apple said about Canadian support before hand. I assume Canadian support for OS X Mountain Lion will be released when iOS 6 comes out with Canadian support for Siri later this year.

I just installed the new mountain OS X. I must admit the dictation feature on it is pretty cool.

I think it's pretty accurate. I'm actually dictating with it right now as I speak.

While dictating, you can use terms such as “period”, “comma”, “question mark”, and “new paragraph” to insert punctuation and to start new paragraphs in your document.

Is it faster to dictate or type on mountain lion?

I am timing myself to see how long it's going to take for me to type this sentence. 12.9 seconds so far. I'm not the fastest typer around, about 50WPM. 24 seconds.

I am timing myself to see how long it's going to take for me to speak to sentence. 7.9 seconds so far. I'm not the fastest hyper round, about 50 words for minute. 15 seconds.

Faster, but remember to account for the few extra seconds I'll have to spend correcting some of the dictation mistakes.
