I am still getting used to Lion, only moved to lion because of my new RMBP. One little thing that bugs me about mission control is it layers things rather then show everything thats open like it did in Snow Leopard. In this screen shot, if I am want to quickly to a folder thats open I would use mission control, or whatever it was called in SL and see everything open, nice and quick and easy. Now its all layered on each other making it not very useful for getting at things quick. Anyway to adjust this? I can't find any settings for mission control that would allow this

there's 2 things in Lion that work together - mission control (4 fingers up on the trackpad) and app expose (4 fingers down on the track pad)....you may have to check these options in the trackpad preference pane.

so first using mission control you'd select the finder, and then using app expose you'd select the open folder window.

As i-rui pointed out you can use the expose feature to see all of an open applications windows in a grid.

Personally I like to have one app assigned to each space: so I can skip mission control and just use a single keyboard shortcut to get directly to the app I want. Once there I swipe down(3 or 4 fingers depending on your gesture settings) to see all of the applications windows in a grid.

That's how I roll anyways, and others might have suggestions too, as this seems more like a workflow issue you're having.

Thanks for the suggestions. I should have mentioned I use my RMBP like a desktop, rarely ever actually use the track pad, I have a magic mouse and bluetooth keyboard hooked up to a larger external monitor. I do use spaces for different apps, indesign, illustrator, photoshop, mail, have their own space. Sometimes there are numerous jobs going at once and have a few folders open as well in which I want to quickly access. I think its just something I have to get used to not having in Lion. Wish they put in a classic type mode for features from Snow Leopard.

is there not gestures for the magic mouse to activate mission control and app expose? if not you might want to give 'better touch tool' a try and create gestures for both. that could be a solution.

I have a hot corner set for that, which is what I am used to and like. THe issue is folders are stacked when in mission control, rather then showing me everything open as it did in snow leopard, not grouping things by app or kind

ok, but that's where app expose becomes part of the solution, as it will just show the windows in a specific app. So once you have the finder active it will work like expose use to in snow leopard.

it's an extra step, but the advantage is mission control handles spaces better IMO.

For what it's worth, there is an option to NOT group windows by app in Mission Control in Mountain Lion.

If I correctly understood, that's what you're looking for and it isn't available in Lion.

As mentioned, the ability to not tile windows was added in 10.8. Finally.

That alone is worth the upgrade price.

Indeed. That's what finally convinced me to upgrade to 10.8 when it's out, skipping 10.7 entirely. (yea, I want iCloud.)

Now give me back my scrollbars arrows Apple. :P

Good to know, and yes, that feature alone is worth upgrading, as long as it does not mess CS6 up even more, or my xerox print drivers :P

thanks for everyones help
