: 12 dead, 50 wounded in shooting at Colorado theater
Dr.G. Jul 20th, 2012, 08:26 AM 12 dead, 50 wounded in shooting at Colorado theater, police chief says - CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/20/us/colorado-theater-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_t1)
(CNN) -- A heavily armed gunman tossed tear gas into an Aurora, Colorado movie theater, then sprayed the audience with gunfire during an early morning screening of the new Batman movie, authorities said. Twelve people died and 50 were wounded.
One of the wounded victims was just 3 months old, according to hospital workers.
Police arrested a man believed to be the shooter in a rear parking lot of the theater, Frank Fania, a police spokesman, told CNN. The suspect was not immediately identified, though Fania said he was believed to be in his early 20s.
"He did not resist. He did not put up a fight," Fania said. Police seized a rifle and a handgun from the suspect, and another gun was found in the theater, he said.
How senseless and tragic. :-(
macintosh doctor Jul 20th, 2012, 09:30 AM I dont understand two things..
why would any one do this? second who takes young kids to a movie that has shooting violence in it in the first place which is playing very late at night?
tragic any way you look at it.
I guess now people are going to be searched for more than bringing in outside food to save a few dollars..
Another reason why I don't go to the movies..
ehMax Jul 20th, 2012, 09:35 AM So tragic and infuriating. Speechless. :(
groovetube Jul 20th, 2012, 09:50 AM The number of shootings of late is horrible.

That is incredible.
i-rui Jul 20th, 2012, 11:23 AM early reports say the shooter loves guns & hates Obama (from social media, so take it with a grain of salt)
just wondering if Rush Limbaugh's idiotic & ignorant rant against the movie somehow factored into this?

What a tragic coincidence. :-(
keebler27 Jul 20th, 2012, 01:21 PM I was sitting in Ice Age 4 with my kids this morning thinking what a horrible tragedy. To have planned it, executed it and then left his apartment booby trapped shows what a sick individual this guy is.
The story regarding the reported is downright unbelievably sad. To have missed one shooting then caught in another one is just crazy. Hard to fathom.
very sad the entire thing.
Kosh Jul 20th, 2012, 03:22 PM second who takes young kids to a movie that has shooting violence in it in the first place which is playing very late at night?
Parents who want to get out and can't get a babysitter, maybe? I've seen it done before. But it's strange they would pick such a late show, you would think they would pick an earlier show. The baby won't know what's happening anyways or would sleep through most of it.
I know Cineplex has an afternoon for parents with babies. They apparently turn down the sound a bit. I'll never forget the day I accidentally attended that day. You see tables laid out with baby stuff on them. But there weren't too many babies in the movie I was at.

There was no earlier show. It was a midnight premiere. Which makes you wonder even more—why not just catch it the next day?
If course the NRA advocates take this opportunity to suggest that had the other moviegoers been armed, they could have minimized the damage.
CubaMark Jul 20th, 2012, 04:10 PM There were also wounded in adjacent theatres (it was a multiplex), as bullets penetrated the walls. It's possible some of the children hurt were watching Ice Age 4 or something... but yeah, a very late evening... A horrible tragedy. The details of this loser's life will be front-and-centre for some time...

it is just bad parenting to take kids to see batman let alone at midnight.. unreal.. still doesn't negate what has happened.. This only instills why I hate going to the movies in the first place.. - never trust who is sitting next to you, plus the place is so dirty.
I have been to the movies twice this year both time with the kids - it was 2 PM or earlier showing, I figured less crowds and nut jobs.. But hoping copy cats don't think to start targeting theaters now at any time of day.
Better security has to be in place. -If someone can break in looking like dark vader / full combat outfit and do what they did, then there is a problem..
As for the comment of NRA - It doesn't matter if the guns were legally purchased or under the table, guns are still out there.
MacDoc Jul 20th, 2012, 04:31 PM Never mind already covered off.
