I have a late 2008 15 inch MBP. Recently, it was knocked off a table (never cat sit for your kids!) and the screen is now a mass of vertical lines of colour. The front glass is not cracked. I connected an external monitor and that works fine - i.e. the graphics card is o.k., it's just the screen itself that's broken.
I've looked around and found that all "How to" videos use a heat gun and suction cup to pull off the front glass - I'd be guaranteed to crack that before I even got to the screen, so don't think I could repair it myself.
I know I could take it to Apple and they would charge me a fortune to fix it. I've also found the Techknow space in Toronto and Mississauga who claim to be able to fix it for $300 - but they seem very off hand on the phone and give the impression they don't care.
Has anybody any experience of Techknow, or is there another company who can install a screen for me? Anybody have any recommendations?
Cheers
Walt
