This really sucks, and it really sours me against the US.

I tried to find more information about the condition of one of my favourite actors, Michael Clark Duncan. I was pointed to an MTV site when a black window with an American flag came up and block my access. It had the news that conveyed that since I am not an American, I was not welcome to view the American MTV web site.

What kind of crap is that? I have never run into anything like this before and if it is the wave of the future, we are in for a very nasty time on the Internet.

FWIW, I visited the site, saw the notice, clicked on 'continue to MTV US anyway, did a search and found all kinds of info on Michael Clark Duncan accessible to Canadians.

Sorry, but this still sucks. I don't think any site in Canada puts up a rude blocking window with a Canadian flag like this to any Americans navigating to web sites in Canada. It is an 'in your face' gesture that really rankles.

There are thousands of sites that do the very same thing. Try accessing some BBC news and video programming in the UK and you will see the same notices from the Brits. I bet if you were a Brit or an American, you would see the same thing on some Canadian sites. We of course don't see those ones and just assume our own country doesn't do it. I suspect we probably do the very same thing to non residents.

Where have you been. This is the norm for most broadcasters. Yeah it sucks, but it's been like that for years.
