Hello,

Lacie makes a Thunderbolt to eSata hub that could be quite useful for me now that I have a Thunderbolt Mac. I was wondering if anyone has tried that device and what level of performance they saw.

I'd be connecting a MediaSonic ProRaid 4-bay unit to it.

Sourcing one may also be difficult; even Apple is claiming 1-2 months before shipping: LaCie eSATA Hub Thunderbolt Series - Apple Store (Canada) (http://store.apple.com/ca/product/H8875ZM/A/lacie-esata-hub-thunderbolt-series)

As far as I know, they haven't started shipping yet.

That's interesting, since there are reviews out there. I know the full featured hubs with USB3, FW800 and other ports aren't shipping yet, but LaCie has this one as an active product on their web site.

I don't have any firsthand knowledge, but "Rob the Mad Scientist" has tested performance with SSD's:

I had some hope for this product before I read that "Port-multiplier enclosures do not work." which sucks because I have 3 of them containing 12 hard drives... Not that I have a TB Mac, but the lack of ability to use port-multiplier enclosures makes Macs with only TB non-starters for me... thus one of the reasons I am sticking with my Mac Pro.

Personally if you can find a similar product by anyone other than LaCie that would be my first choice as I (and many others) have had nothing but bad luck with their products.

Friend of mine has two of them - they work great connecting to single drives but the lack of port multiplication is frustrating unless connecting to a device that does the port multiplication internally (we hadn't tried this in speed tests)

The adapter is *heavy* of which most of it is the aluminum case.

To single drives he was getting the max performance you'd see from a single spindle drive (up to 120 MB/sec read, 90MB/sec write on a 2 TB) - one on each eSATA connector copying from a REDMAG.
