Its very frustrating. I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard and it is constantly dropping the signal. Had this keyboard for 2 years I would say and its been problem free. The magic mouse does not drop, nor does the track pad, just the keyboard. Is this is a sign that the keyboard is dying or is there something else that could be causing this?

On a RMBP with 10.7.4

I'm sure you've swapped batteries, but if you're using rechargeable ones, perhaps they're getting old and not holding sufficient charge?

If you haven't already, I would suggest a reboot of the computer. I recall having some bluetooth problems in the past which were cleared up by a simple reboot. Hopefully that will help.

The computer has rebooted numerous times with some other things. Batteries are brand new energizers. I will try swapping the batteries anyways though maybe it just an unlucky pair.

Have you added any additional wireless devices lately or something else nearby that may be causing the interference.

Lots of similar problem posts and hits with a google search on 'mac apple bluetooth keyboard keeps dropping' and some possible causes.

I had the same problem. I swapped batteries to the same kind that came with the keyboard and that solved the problem.

Other then switching to a new MacBook Pro, everything in the office is the same.

With new batteries, it has not dropped once in a few hours, which is a huge improvement over the multiple times per hour, or even when typing a post on ehmac. All seems good now, those pesky little batteries were the bad guys.

thanks

I have found some that for some reason the cheaper batteries work better in my keyboard, then the really expensive ones that came with it, sounds odd I know but I use the Costco Kirkland brand they seem to work the best for me.

The Costco Kirkland brand batteries are well know for their excellent performance and decent price and test have shown that they outperform some of the high priced well advertised ones, even those with the drumming bunny.

Not sure it will make a difference, but I've seen this work once.

Try going to System Prefs >> Bluetooth

Then remove and repair the keyboard with the computer.
