My wife's hard drive crashed a couple of days ago and my first thought was "Oh well, this happens good thing we back up regularly." Until I looked and found out that her last back up was 6 months ago. When I asked she just did not think it was needed. She thinks differently today. On a happy note her old hd came back long enough to back up. For the last 2 days the thing would not even mount. I am waiting to do a full back up before diving in further. Wish me luck!!!:D

If the drive starts to work again just grab the most important stuff you can first. Then do a full back up. It would suck for the drive to die again during the backup and you didn't get to save the most important things. Best of luck

Thank, got the full back up. Drive not mounting again, so it was just enough time.

And by the Grace of God it sounds like.

Did you also happen to buy a Lotto ticket with your streak of luck? ;)

Lucky!!

I would set up Time Machine though. I have it set up on my wife's Air, it backs up automatically through the wireless network with no effort on her part required.

I thought it would have been pretty easy since she just had to plug the USB cable in and leave it. LOL, alls well that ends well.:D

As long as one checks that TM is actually doing a proper update and working, and I've lost count of the number of times it has failed without the actual user bothering to check.

And also a reason I prefer CCC and it's various cloning backup methods.

I should look into that.

You may want to download and purchase the new CCC 3.5 version that is now commercial and donations no longer work now while it's on sale for $31.04 CAD. 25% off with the "Get ready for Mountain Lion" promotion (ends Aug 12).

Old pre June 24, 2012 I believe, donations are still honoured as payment for the 3.5 version for those that donated with previous versions.
