Help!
My 2010 27" iMac won't boot. I get the grey screen with the apple logo and then it switches to a circle with a line through it. Then it just hangs.
I've reset PRAM, SMC and can boot using safe mode. Disk Utility from install DVD says the HD is fine (repair, verify etc.).
The problem started after I installed an older version of Disk Warrior (osx 10.4?) to try and save a friends external HD. DW wouldn't load...
I'm running Snow leopard.
Haven't backed up in over a month and have some key files on the System HD.
Is there a way to clone the HD from another Mac?
Thanks

Kernel panic. But yes, clone your drive now using target disk mode:

Hmmm... I really don't see any reason of having a older version of DiskWarrior installed could cause such a problem, unless it was and old 3.x version and it was run.
But if you can coot up with Safe Boot, there's no reason you can't uninstall it, then use your install disk to boot from and run DU to do any needed repairs.
Or download the appropriate Mac OS COMBO Update and run it in Safe Boot mode.
Edit: Just to reinforce my doubt of DW causing the problem with your Mac, here's the alsoft comment from their site at DiskWarrior 3 Support (http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/supportdw3.html)
"DiskWarrior 3 and Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger)
In order to run DiskWarrior while started from Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) you will need to use DiskWarrior version 3.0.3, 4.0 or later.
Earlier versions of DiskWarrior, while not compatible with Tiger, will not harm your disk. Attempting to rebuild a disk with DiskWarrior 3.0.2 or earlier, while started from Tiger, will result in an error stating that a "Mac OS Services" failure occurred.
Attempting to rebuild a Tiger disk while started from a DiskWarrior 3.0.2 CD can also result in an error message stating that "This disk appears to have a newer version of the Mac OS disk format than this version of DiskWarrior." When started from earlier versions of the DiskWarrior CD, DiskWarrior may simply indicate that the disk cannot be repaired. In all cases, DiskWarrior 3.0.2 and earlier, will not harm your disk."

Thanks
Dropped it off at Apple store in Burlington. Looks like HD may be failing and logic board error came up during the Genius's initial test. AppleCare good till Jan 2013!

It's pretty easy to make a false connection between kernel panic and something you might have done the previous day.

Archive and install by Genius at Burlington Apple store looks to have solved the problem. Took 2 visits, but I'm back in the game!

Good to hear, but why were two visits needed??
It seems like your AppleCare paid off and saved you the time and trouble of re-installing, but it might have been quicker to do it yourself and avoid four trips to/from the Apple Store. ;)
