Canada's gold-coloured $1 coin, nicknamed the loonie for the waterfowl emblazoned on one side, was first minted 25 years ago.

The shiny new 11-sided-edge coin, was introduced on June 30, 1987 as a cost-saving measure and quickly had a fan following.

Exactly my pants pockets have never been the same since :D
Now I have several bulges. ( they all jingle )

When Rowdy Hawkins went to buy his Rolls Royce and showed up with a paper bag of cash, it's never had the same effect.. Its just not cool to show with a bag of coins LOL

So they got $1 $2 and soon $5 coins. But they say I can't use $50s or $100s
So I am limited to $10s and $20s. :-(

Well, be grateful that you have the $10s and $20s to spend. Paix, mon ami.

I remember being at HMCS Quadra (Sea Cadets) and an American paid me 10 dollars American for a Loonie. They were in pretty high demand at the camp.

Polymer notes hopefully will finally make 50's and 100's a bit more practical to use (not that I can say I have my hands on a $50 all that often).

Though I'm flabbergasted that the new loonies are so damn useless. What a terrible decision those were. Anyone who's been stuck at a parking meter with one of those in your pocket knows what I mean.
