: Is the 17" screen now defunct?
Lawrence Jun 27th, 2012, 05:40 PM I've noticed that Facebook no longer supports the 1024 X 768 resolution anymore,
Now you need at least 1280 X 1024 to see everything without cut off bits.
For those that still have and use a 17" screen,
What's it like seeing the text getting smaller and smaller on websites these days?
Are you frustrated that you have to constantly change your resolution?
Then change the text size in your browser?
Why can't they have an auto something built into the browser to detect your monitor to the website?
I hate this crap, And no, I'n not getting a bigger monitor either,
My 17" monitor is just fine, I'm even used to the one pixel that is stuck on.
:)
Andrew Pratt Jun 27th, 2012, 07:40 PM I design my sites to be viewed on a 17" display but frankly there are very few people left using that on a full blown computer these days....mobile however is why I often keep my sites to 1024.
Atroz Jun 27th, 2012, 08:26 PM I've been using a 17" display for more than 4 years and have no problem with 1280x1024 and even 1920x1200. Of course my 17" is attached to a MBP and the default res is 1920x1200 ;)
With Lion you can easily zoom in on a screen with a double tap to get larger text. I frequently do this a I browse as some sites use very small fonts. I find sites that use a 1024 screen size annoying. LIke this one. I get a strip down the centre of the screen with big while fields on both sides unless I zoom.
Websites know the screen size, I don't understand why more of them don't format to the screen size.
Chimpur Jun 27th, 2012, 11:03 PM While screen size may be important... What about window size? I don't have many apps that I use totally full screen. I like to sort of tile my apps so that you can see the corners or a few lines of a few different windows at once.

I see everything shuffled off to the right side, Even on ehMac,
I don't know if it's something new or something changed recently with an update.
Now I have to increase the resolution to see everything in the middle.

Increase the resolution, or the font size? They're not the same.
I love the high resolution of my 27" screens, but I increase the font size of many apps to compensate for the smaller size.

... yup, me too. (otherwise, just too much "squinting" for these 'older' eyes)
Lawrence Jun 28th, 2012, 06:12 PM I have the resolution set at 1280 x 1024 @ 75HZ and I've zoomed in the window to read the text, But the window text in the browser is still really small.
Lawrence Jun 28th, 2012, 06:28 PM Okay, Wait a second, I've found that I can zoom the text and tweak the browser at 1024 x 768 @ 75 hz,
I'm going to play with it a bit, I just can't understand why the pref's got messed up all of a sudden.
However, Now the browser text is big and the window text is small at 1024 x 768.
Wah?
