: Migrating old HDD content to an SSD

Hey guys,

Got an 240GB SSD and about to install it into my iMac. Previous HDD is the default 1TB drive.

What's the best way to move my home folder (or parts of it) and apps into the new SSD? Migration Utility?

The plan I have is to have the SSD as the boot drive. So, I plan on keeping Mac OS (heheh, I no longer run OS X), and Apps (Adobe apps, Apps from MAS). Having said that, I plan on keeping symlinks for Music, iTunes folder, and Desktop on the old HDD.

Anyone had similar setup? Or perhaps suggestions on using dual drive setups?

Run a similar set up on my Mac Pro.

Anyways you can clone the SSD drive with everything other than the user folders from the old hard drive. Then keep the user folder from the old drive and tell OS X that is where the user folders are.

I ran into some permission issues when doing this, so I actually ended up doing a fresh install of lion on the SSD and then installing a new hard drive, formatted it and set up the user folders there and restored from a backup.

Hmm… sounds like a fresh start might be the better option too. Have fresh Mac OS & Apps installed onto the SSD.

Once I have Mac OS and Apps on the new SSD; I can then link parts of the home folder on the SSD, into the home folder in the HDD.

Am I understanding that right? ;P

It would help if you could detail which parts of the Home folder you want on the SSD and which parts on the HDD.
Is it simply a matter of relocating your libraries of photos, music and movies from the boot drive to the HDD?

Could use some advice actually…

I plan on moving Music, Photos and Movies on the HDD. Also, should I relocate Scratch Disk to HDD as well?

Keeping Library, Documents, Dropbox, Applications in the SSD.
