go to the apple website there is a service provider locator that will let you find an AASP close to you. they will most likely work on liquid damaged machines whereas the genius bar will look at it and say ITS CHEAPER TO BUY A NEW MACHINE and usher you to the sales floor

*disclaimer:depending on the nature of the damage and your particular computer it *might* actually be cheaper to buy a new machine. only one way to find out though..

I can recommend this shop in Peterborough (Ontario) where I had successful repairs for many liquid spilled MacBooks. You can contact Doug via the "Contact member" link.

eBay My World - hondodh (http://myworld.ebay.ca/hondodh/?_trksid=p4340.l2559)

Google maps says pet borough is about 5:44 away from Montreal by car....not sure how relevant that is

You could try the guy on L'Acadie in Montreal, see what he says.

I had a MacBook pro 15-inch screen replaced by him, that worked out OK.
But I have no clue if he has any experience how to handle water damage.

That guys contact info should come up if you do a search here.

really, why would someone make a 12 hour round trip to fix a macbook?

One wouldn't.

Did anyone even click on the link provided?
Sounds like a fantastic service - 90% success rate, one knows up front how much it will cost if it gets fixed and also if it can't be fixed.

One of course ships the MacBook from Montreal rather than drive and then wait while the MacBook is being fixed.

I don't need any such repair but clicking "on the link provided" is a bit of a bizarre way to do any such repair business IMHO.

Where's his website or a proper contact page??

That was the idea, not driving from Montreal to Peterboroug. But if the OP prefers to pay a premium to Apple for this repair that's up to him. I don't know anyone in Quebec that do this kind of job. All you can find here is a logic board replacement and prepare your wallet for it.

I strongly vouch for boutique iStore on Victoria street. The even have a rather Appleish design in their store and are an authorized apple reseller. They can give you advice on how to get repairs done cheaply and have been good at negotiating with apple on my behalf.

You had me confused for a minute since there is no Victoria Street in Montreal, only a Victoria Ave. and I also had never heard of the iStore here.

But sure enough, it's in Westmount on Victoria Ave, just below Sherbrooke.
Not too far from me - I need to stop in there and take a look around.

PS: Sort of odd.

If you go to the iStore website and check for locations, they only list small boutique locations at the various airports.

The head office shows as being in Montreal on St. Laurent, but the store on Victoria Ave. is nowhere to be found on their web site.

sorry I messed up the street name, I don't think they even write them in superscript in Westmount, just big 'ole W.A.S.P. names in block black lettering on a white background :)

The store even changed names a few times. I live on the plateau so it's completely on the other side of the city but I still made the trip because the service is so good. There was an indian guy there with an unusual name that was there last I went and he gave me great service. However, their technicians are at the boutique with limited hours so be sure to call first or else there might not even be a technician present to help you.

Whenever I have a problem I usually just call applecare and then go to the store on St-Catherine. If it's off warranty stuff I go to iStore in Westmount.

Whatever you do, don't ever go to micro boutique Inso on parc ave. They were the absolute worst ever when I had to deal with them, years ago.
