My son's MBP just decided to stop functioning today. My Power Adapter works fine on his MBP. His cord also functions fine with my brick, so we have isolated it to his brick. Has there been any known issues with these (mid-2010)? I wonder if Apple replaces them out of warranty. It shows no signs of abuse at all. Minor scuffing is it.

They do sometimes just die. There's no recall on them, as far as I'm aware. Don't let that stop you from asking at your neighborhood Genius Bar though.

They may be a pain in the ass for almost everything else, but they're great for out of warranty replacements.

No Genius Bar within a day's flight. Looks like they can be had on eBay for about $70 shipped. There are some 3rd party alternatives that are quite a bit cheaper. I wonder how they hold up. Anyone have any experience with those?

Call Apple, you might get lucky.

They're $79 shipped from Apple.

I wouldn't trust a third party MagSafe. Especially not for the $20-$30 it might save.

Just called Apple and told them this particular Power Adapter came with my Refurb MBP which just went over a year in March. They suggested going to an Apple Service Provider of which we don't have. The only other option is to purchase a new one. If any issues came up to where they determined there was an on-going problem, they would replace it. So, I guess that means a new purchase.
