: Wanted To Buy Any LaCie 2Big or 5Big stand-alone hard drive

I am trying to recover an unbootable LaCie 2Big with a corrupted partition map, these devices have a major design flaw in that the operating system resides on the hard drives and not in firmware, so if the hard drives become unbootable you have a doorstop.

Since I would rather set myself on fire than deal with LaCie support again so I would like to find a 500GB drive I can image to rebuild bootable drives.

Alternatively... if somebody would like to make me a "DD" image of a LaCie 2Big drive that would be marvelous too.

:lmao: Although I can't help you I sure hear you about dealing with LaCie support they are the worst.

Yeah, this is the second 2Big to bomb on us.

The last time it was a hardware problem with the box itself and they refused to replace the box without us sending in the REMOVABLE drives with them.

So why did we buy a NAS with REMOVABLE drives if as far as LaCie is concerned they are forever married. I stuck those drives in my FreeBSD server and am using that 2Big as a door stop. (unfortunately I wiped out those drives a few months ago when I made a new RAID set) I could not seem to impress upon their illustrious support people that the drives were REMOVABLE and there was absolutely no reason to send them.

I don't understand 90% of your post, but I think I have some spare equipment that might be of use to you.

I have a spare LaCie 2Big Quadra box with one functioning 500G drive in it. I have it stashed in an office that I don't use over the summer months, about 3 hours from here one way, but I might make a trip there soon to pick up some books. Lemme know if I should get the LaCie for you or not. I was actually planning on abandoning it, as it has only the one drive, and I like to make a double backup. (The other drive stopped working a couple years back about a day or so after the warranty expired.)

I have on hand 2 2Big Quadra Firewire 800 (etc) and one 2Big Thunderbolt, but they are all in use.

Thanks for the offer, I am not sure if the Quadro and Network 2Big's use the same software or not, if they use the same drives it might still have the 2Big NAS software pre-loaded.

I would have to look into that, do you know how much you would want for it?

Thanks,

So maybe you cannot use these spare bits? It is unclear to me. But if you can, you should email me in private and we can negotiate a price. For my part it will be a reasonable price. Pls let me know what part of the country you are in, as I live in the backwoods of BC and don't get out much more than once a week to places with a Post Office.
