: iCloud? Will this work?

My granddaughter has an iPod nano and after a series of computer disasters (my old PowerBook actually produced smoke) she is concerned about losing the nano and all her music.

She will be getting a new computer for uni, but probably not an Apple.

Here's what I think we can do. I have a 4th gen iPod touch. We can use my MacBook to copy her music and put it on the iPod Touch.

Will her music then reside in iCloud? I don't know where she got the music from. Don't ask :D

Can she access iCloud from a windows computer?

Can we set up her iCloud account on my MacBook without messing with my account?

If this sounds goofy to you, please recommend a better way.

Thanks, Margaret

You would need to subscribe to iTunes Match to have a copy of the music in iCloud. Simply copying it to an iOS devices is not sufficient.

Create a new user account for her on your Mac. That account can be set up as her own without infringing on yours at all. Go System Preferences/Accounts and set her up as a new user with a Standard account. You can even exert some 'parental' controls. Youu email, iTunes and assorted setups will be protected. She will have her own setups. She uses HER iTunes account in HER user acc't on the Mac. Kind of like another computer inside yours. This is exactly like user accounts at a university or college. You become the system admin with virtual the same powers as the sys admin on a large server.

EDIT - After thought. Does she have an iCloud account of her own? Does it have the capacity (Gigs) to hold her music? Who's bandwidth will be up/down loading?

Thanks John, I was trying to remember what that service was called. I'll get that for her.

I keep forgetting about separate user accounts. That will make it easier. She's 18 and makes good decisions so I'm not worried about her activity on my computer.

I don't know how much music she has, but we'll check the capacity. We live in Saskatchewan and so far we have no caps on bandwidth, so no worries there.

I'm scheming to have her Dad buy this MacBook for her and then I'll be able to get a new Air. Well see.

Thanks, Margaret
