dona83 Jun 12th, 2012, 01:49 PM I think the Thunderbolt update is the main issue.
Thunderbolt Software Update 1.2 Causing Boot Failures for Some Users - Mac Rumors (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/12/thunderbolt-software-update-1-2-causing-boot-failures-for-some-users/)
macintosh doctor Jun 12th, 2012, 01:51 PM I am going to mirror my computer and then do the update to test out the issue - at this point I have asked and they mentioned those.. but your right..
will do it later tonight when I have time to kill. LOL
CubaMark Jun 12th, 2012, 02:27 PM Did CarbonCopy bootable backup, ran Software Update, all installs went well (including Thunderbolt) and no problems on restart.
Late-2011 MacBook Pro 13".
pm-r Jun 13th, 2012, 02:07 AM Is this a Lion only potential problem??
I've had no problems with my iMac running SL Mac OS 10.6.8 after doing a Software Update check and install today and both after a restart and a shutdown and a clean boot, and everything works.
csonni Jun 13th, 2012, 04:18 AM Had just run updates this morning and then saw this post. Restarted fine with no problems. Hope nothing crops up.
cap10subtext Jun 13th, 2012, 08:57 AM I see Lion is up to it's usual standards. Any reports of it affecting 10.6 users?
Whoops, is there a parrot on my shoulder? My bad.

Do you mean Thunderbolt? That's the thing causing issues. Nothing else. If your computer doesn't have thunderbolt (and even some that do) you are fine. No Lion issue.
SINC Jun 13th, 2012, 09:58 AM I had no issues with the update at all:
dona83 Jun 13th, 2012, 11:14 AM I tried running Software Update on my wife's Air this morning, the Thunderbolt Software Update did not appear. Maybe it's been pulled for the time being?
MacMonkeyBoy Jun 13th, 2012, 01:18 PM After updating iPhoto to 9.3 last night it "upgraded" my iPhoto library to be Aperture compatible. Note that I do not have Aperture installed.
Mail or other apps that use the Media Browser would not display any iPhoto pics, just Photo Booth. I restarted in Single User Mode (Command+S) then exited to the regular interface and it works now. I also removed a couple of .tif files from my iPhoto library and was working down the suggestions from this support note, iLife: Cannot See iPhoto Files in Other iLife Applications (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1192) but no joy until the SUM restart.
duosonic Jun 13th, 2012, 09:59 PM will hold off doing any updates for a while till more info emerges on this …
slipstream Jun 14th, 2012, 04:15 AM I ran all the updates on mid-2011 iMac and seem to have no problems thankfully.
Just disappointed that although iPhoto will now open my Aperture library, it doesn't display the folder structure I built to organize our photos. IPhoto Just shows page after page of events. Messy. But then why open iPhoto anyway.
So glad I purchased a second hard drive for weekly SuperDuper clones.
pm-r Jun 14th, 2012, 06:01 PM Well at least Apple has pulled the Thunderbolt Software Update 1, at least for now.
But as I posted to our local Mac list:
What I really don't understand is why Apple even included it for so many in the Software Update, when every Mac model (the MacBook Air models and some of the just recently released Mac models being an exception), already had provision for Gigabit Ethernet with their existing Gigabit Ethernet port.
Scratching head for the reason!
One member replied with:
Even though other Macs with a Thunderbolt port (or two) might have an existing Gigabit Ethernet port, some may want to add another Ethernet connection and would then possibly purchase the Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter to achieve this. (One use would be to share an internet connection by hooking a 2nd Mac to the "main" Mac via cabled ethernet versus WIFI.)
Apple has no way of knowing which of the many Thunderbolt equipped Macs might be going down this path, so they have to offer any Thunderbolt related updates to all Thunderbolt equipped Macs.
Hmm... I really wonder how many would actually be doing such a thing and would using two separate Ethernet connections actually work??
