Something strange is happening with finder and Spotlight.
I downloaded a file using Cyberduck from my Home Server, so far so good. When I used Spotlight to find it, it would not, when I use the search in Finder same thing, even if I specify the Downloads folder, but when I browse the Downloads folder, there it is. Cyberduck uses FTP. Any idea why neither Spotlight nor Finder would find it?

Maybe for the same reason I refer to it as "Stoplight".
And also why I keep bot"EasyFind" and "Find Any File" in my Dock. ;)
You haven't added you boot drive to the Spotlight Privacy option area perhaps??

Because Spotlight is stupid. I have the same problem with spotlight refusing to find files that are CLEARLY named, even if I point it in the general direction of the same file. Another gripe I have with spotlight is it's insistence on defaulting to search my ENTIRE MAC even if I start the search from a specific folder.
What happened to the days of Panther when the search function actually worked as it was supposed to?

Might be time to rebuild the index, if it hasn't been done in a while. Also, is it possible your downloads folder is in the privacy list in spotlight preferences?

This kind of thing is exactly why I download any file to the desktop. I see it downloading and can move it where I want it to reside.

+1. Along with all the other old and often goofy surplus stuff that the default Downloads user folder collects.
