: Lion Mail Giving Extraneous Notifications

Hi all,

This is a long shot but I'm hoping someone has heard of a similar issue to this and has a solution. After months of assuring her nothing would go wrong, I recently convinced my wife to upgrade her iMac to Lion. I did all the upgrades last weekend, and everything went smoothly but one thing. Her Mail (connected to a GMail account through POP), will work fine, but now at random times (3 in the last week) it seems to go crazy with new mail notification and email sent sounds. This happens at times when she is doing nothing with Mail, and Mail shows no new messages, and nothing having been sent. If it were just one or two sounds I might be able to explain it away, but she estimates up to 50 sounds firing off in rapid succession. Enough that she panics and tries to shut down Mail. This never happened before the upgrade.

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

Is she using Mail to subscribe to any RSS feeds?

Nope, she uses NetNewsWire for that.

If the sound of 50 emails is enough to make her "panic" you should take away her computer and buy her an iPad. ;)

Jokes aside backup the mbox files in ~/library/mail and then remove the pop account and re-add it. If the problem persists try re adding the account as an IMAP account.

It's definitely not a widespread issue
