Recently, AT&T has instituted new regulations regarding data packages on Prepaid SIMs. In the past, it was possible to buy just data (e.g. $25 for 500mb/30days). Now, that option is only available for those who are on Monthly prepaid plans, either $50 or $25 voice plans. So, technical, it' available, but the option has now just doubled in price. Not worth it for the 2-3 day trips I usually wind up taking to the states.
So, does anyone know of any other options for GSM unlocked in the states?

I've posted numerous times before, go with Talk, Text and Data for Canadians Roaming in the US - Roam Mobility (http://www.roammobility.com) .
If you're in the states for 3 days and have an unlocked phone, you can get 3 days of unlimited talk and text to anywhere in Canada and the US and 200MB of data for $18.95. If you just need data, 500MB for $29.95 with plans up to 5GB.

The only downside to 'Roam' is your d/l speed is limited to 2G.

The only downside to 'Roam' is ........
... Unless you think $20 for three days :o is userous..... That's a rate that makes Robbers look generous.....

What do you mean by 'userous'?
2G bandwidth is essentially EDGE at 220kbps, And ping is quite horrible around 450-550 ms
3G on the other hand consistently hits the 384kbps, with latency much lower at 150ms to 200ms.
This is what I meant by downside... $20 for 3 days is good, if you don't mind slower loading web pages.

It means exorbitant.

The word intended was "usurious," although the sense intended is as quoted:
It means exorbitant.

They have 4G. Maybe it depends on what bands they work on. If it's AWS, that might be the problem. Confirmed: yes, Roam is AWS.
They do sell a handset for $49.95 and a 4G mobile wifi hotspot for $129.95. I have a cheap Android phone through Wind I bought for my business so I'll probably just use that.
It's $7.95 for three days unlimited talk and text and $18.95 for three days unlimited talk and text and 200MB of data. It's definitely cheaper than roaming. Plus that's to call to anywhere in Canada and the US. Call home to Canada for 5 minutes or send 10 text messages and you'll have gotten your money's worth right there on the talk and text side. Considering the competition, I think this is a good deal.
