Hi

My neighbor bought a 27" Apple monitor and then realised that his Mac Pro doesn't have a mindisplay port? Does anyone have any solutions for him?

Thanks

He needs a compatible video card, or an expensive adapter.

His best bet is to return it, and buy a DVI monitor.

Only adapter I've seen, and approx. $200

Thanks, John - is there a compatible video card for his Mac Pro 2006?

Thanks

the current 5770 will work as long as he is running 10.6.8 or higher

The NVIDIA GT120 is a good choice as well if you can find one on CL or Kijiji. Half to one third the price of the 5770 and nowhere near as noisy!

the gt120 won't work in first gen mac pros.

if you want a minidisplay port on a mac pro 1,1 the options are (in order of least to most power) :

5770
4870
5870

the 5770/5870 require snow leopard and up
the 4870 requires leopard and up

Thanks to all for their advice. I will convey the options and maybe he will sell it to me at a reduced price.

Thanks

also just to clarify, if the 27" display is the thunderbolt version of the display it WILL NOT work on a mac pro. it has to be the mini display port version.

Have him email us - we can sort something - maybe trade him into a non-Tbolt which we stock and we have card options for him or other monitors we can trade him into.
