: Anyone using Mediarover to sync iTunes libraries?
i-rui May 27th, 2012, 12:18 PM the built in iTunes home sharing only syncs content bought from the itunes store, I'm looking for something that will sync cd rips and other mp3s i've added manually.
it seems mediarover should do the trick. anyone have any input on it?

I think iTunes Match will also accomplish this and "blesses" the files that were obtained from, um, alternate sources, including pirated music. Call it music laundering. ;) :greedy:

itunes match won't work on rare stuff, and also requires every computer to be running the same itunes account (or a separate itunes match to be purchased for each individual account).
mediarover sounds like it will do what i want, but i'd like to hear some first hand accounts. i'm also a bit skeptical it can do all this and still be free, so i'm worried theres a catch somewhere (are they data mining my info?)
or if someone knows of a separate app that will do the trick i'm all ears.

Well, good luck with all that then. If it's free, you usually get what you pay for. I've heard a lot of good things about iTunes Match, and from what I understand, for the songs it doesn't have, it uploads those and blesses them anyway, so you can use them on multiple computers the same way. As soon as I get a new credit card, I'ma goin' for it.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but home sharing will share your entire library, regardless of how it got into iTunes.
i-rui May 27th, 2012, 02:45 PM share, yes.
sync, no.

Exactly. It's what I've been doing at home for years and I don't even have iTunes Match up and running yet. If you can get it into iTunes, it's available for home sharing.
i-rui May 27th, 2012, 02:54 PM i use home sharing and it works well for it's intended purpose.
but sharing is not syncing. there is a distinct difference.
fjnmusic May 27th, 2012, 02:55 PM For syncing, just drag whatever's in your other home shared libraries into the computer you're working on. The media section at the top (music, movies, etc.) highlights in blue and whatever you've selected will be transferred/synced to your computer regardless of how it got into iTunes.
I just did it this morning with one my own recordings so I know it works.
i-rui May 27th, 2012, 02:59 PM yes, but that's not syncing, thats manually copying content between computers. it gets a bit cumbersome if you have multiple computers each with their own itunes library.
fjnmusic May 27th, 2012, 03:06 PM Fair enough. In that case, as far as syncing goes, I'd still say iTunes Match sounds like the least amount of hassle and makes all your content available on all your devices regardless of their origin. I haven't tried it yet, so I can't testify to any glitches, but it sounds right on paper. You do need to be on Lion first, however.
I do know that the way I have it set up currently, I can access all my music on the iMac, either of the MacBooks, two iPhones, two iPod Touches, two iPads, and three (!) AppleTV's with Home Sharing (all on same AppleID) and play them using AirPlay on the AppleTV's or Express routers, regardless of the original source of the songs, and without having to make duplicates of the songs for each device. All easily configured and controlled with the Remote app too. No major problems so far.

another reason why itunes match won't work. 3 of the computers on the network can only run snow leopard.
