My wife and I have iPhones* bought from Apple directly.

I was asking a UK mobile carrier about using my iPhone in the UK. The reply stated they have come across iPhone bought unlocked which are locked by the carrier when a SIMM is installed. I have never heard of this practise. Anyone knows if this is correct in Canada and in particular with Koodo and Virgin?

Here is the tweet from the UK carrier:

****** It may be worth checking with to make sure you can use your phone in the UK. The iPhone 4s is sold as an unlocked handet, however, once you put a sim card in the phone, it locks to that network. We've been experiencing this in the UK, so it's worth checking to see if it's the same in Canada.
