: Looking for better Application to record Audio tat Audio Hijack

Hi,

I have been fiddling around with Audio Hijack most of the afternoon trying to record a very short, about 2 1/2 minute streamed audio message and the way that application is designed is driving me nutty.

To start with, it is apparently not compatible with the 64-bit version of Safari, so when I try to record, it needs to relaunch Safari in the 32-bit mode and then I get the recording twice, once immediately even in 64-bit mode and again a bit delayed and superimposed when Safari launches again.

So after going through that a few times until I figured out what was happening, I took their advice and changed Safari to 32-bit mode via "Get Info", but now Audio Hijack doesn't record anything when Safari launches directly in 32-bit mode.

I would like to start recording before I go to the web site with the audio so that I don't miss any of the beginning, but that doesn't seem to work, looks like the audio file has to play in Safari before the recording can be started.

So - any other recommended option to record a plain short audio file?

was gonna suggest WireTap, but probably not....

I looked at WireTap but it doesn't work with Lion so that was a non-starter.

As to Audio Hijack, I decided to use it with Camino rather than Safari and that worked fine because Camino I assume is still a 32-bit application.
Solves my problem at least for now.

But if there are simple applications just to capture web audio, nothing else, I'm still interested.
Don't need any audio processing capability, I do that after I have the audio file on my Mac.

I think Soundflower (http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/) might fit the bill.

Not true. Just tested it myself.

I have no idea what you're doing wrong, but something's up on your end. Sorry I can't be more help.

I find the program incredibly easy to use, and have set up some "presets" for the kinds of recording I typically do. One of them is called "Safari" and as you may imagine when clicked automatically sets AHP to record Safari's output to a certain kind of file for XX minutes starting at a certain time and from a certain website.

Maybe you haven't set that up yet?

Chas_M,

I don't make these things up.

When I try to capture that short audio clip of only a couple of minutes or so with Safari, I get this window that pops up.

Then I go through the exercise I explained earlier and never get the beginning of that audio file.

Not only that, what I found out later is that the noise that is superimposed on the saved audio file after 10 minutes on the test version is actually cumulative.
The description on their web site is very misleading in that respect.

And finally, after the noise is now superimposed right at the beginning, not after 10 minutes, I ended up getting that noise on every streamed you tube video I wanted to listen to even though Audio Hijack recording was turned off.
Only way to get rid of that was to trash Audio Hijack completely.

The version I tried was the latest download from the net - as far as I am concerned that software needs some more work especially if they want to charge for it.
