How cool is that! I love it!

I have questions:

Contacts - I have iPhone, MacBook, iPad, iPod touch

1. when my contacts synced, I got some duplicates and some garbage. I cleaned up on the iPhone, will this clean contact list flow back to other devices? Is there some place I need to make a clean list and then sync?

2. In case of emergency. I'm getting old so I want the EMS folks to be able to contact my son without having to go through my contact list. I'd like my son's phone number to be the first one they see. How can I do this?

3. Also in case of emergency, I'd like it to be easy for them to see who I am. Suggestions?

4. Groups? I can't find a way to create groups on the iPhone. Am I missing something?

Thanks
Margaret

EMS in North America ( and around the world) have all been trained to look for a contact named ICE (In Case of Emergency) as the go to location in your contacts list for emergency information. You can add any other information you want in the notes section. Wikipedia has comment on it: In case of emergency - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_case_of_emergency).

It likely should be used in addition to similar information placed in your wallet adjacent to your driver's licence.

If you create groups in Contacts on your Macbook, they will update to the contacts on your phone when you sync the two.

As long as they are all synced to iCloud, the changes you make on one device should show up on all your devices. I find syncing my Safari bookmarks very helpful, for example.

Don't most people use the Cloud for music and such? And I'm figuring out how Dropbox works, it seems pretty useful.

Thanks for the help.

I wish/hope there is a way to set the ringtone for any number not in my contact list to something else like a dull thud.

I suppose I could set the ringtone for each contact to one ringtone and set the default to something else? Would that work?

Yes. You can assign ringtones to whatever you wish. You can even create your own ringtones in GarageBand. Other alerts are customizable as well, just in case everyone else in the room has that same tri-tone sound when they get a new text.

To the previous post, yes iCloud is used to sync these things but also all of your contacts, calendar events, and so on. It's pretty handy. DropBox is great for accessing files from many different devices, even non-iOS and non-OSX ones.

Ringtones?

I bought a ringtone from iTunes and it showed up as expected.

Then I bought some iPhone apps to create/record my own tones. Can't figure out how to get them to show up so I can use them.

Help?

Margaret

Once you create a ringtone, you have to select 'tones', then import it into iTunes using 'add to library', then sync your iPhone to iTunes and they will show up.

I've found Free Ringtones for iPhone & Mobile. Free Ringtone Maker - Audiko (http://www.audiko.net) to have a great selection of downloadable ringtones, as well.

Thanks Sinc. That was easy and it worked.

Not jail broken, so can't use it. There are lots of ringtone apps in the app store too.

I'm not jailbroken either - you find the ringtone you like, download it and add it to your tones library.

Thanks, I saw a reference to Cydia (sp?) and thought it was for jail-broken phones.:o:o

I'm enjoying reading eBooks on my iPhone. I've had an iPod Touch for quite a while but didn't find it easy to read on.

Both have retina display, so I don't know why. Is it just me? Or does everyone notice this.
