: Now that I'm back, should I switch to Apple Store Canada?

I've been attending University in Duluth, Minnesota. I've had an iPad for quite some time, and have accumulated a lot of apps, etc. I've used iTunes (US) cards. Now that I'm back in Windsor, should I switch over to iTunes Canada store, or isn't there much difference (I don't want to end up losing all the apps I've already paid for only to find there isn't much difference with iTunes Canada). Being on the border, I could continue buying US iTunes cards at Walgreens or Target.

Suggestions? Am I missing out on a lot by not having an iTunes Canada store account?

Thank you!

Jonathan

Not really, no. Except that sometimes music prices are a little higher in the Canadian store.

But if you do switch, you won't lose your apps or music purchased in the US store. Lots of people (me included) have two accounts with no problems.

Actually, sometimes Canadians prices are cheaper, especially for Canadian artists. Before I buy a song, I always check both the US and Canada stores to see which has the better deal.

I second the suggestion of having 2 accounts, I use my us one for access to us only store promos, free app of the day or single of the week etc... As well as some other free apps that are only on the us store(mostly us television networks, which you can watch via a VPN).

I think you need to verify if you switch to the canada version will your products from the US store still function.. [ a lot of times US items are not in the Canadian store - so be careful ]

There is no need to switch.

ADD a Canada Store account.

Then you can sign in to whichever account you need.

There aren't Canadian versions of apps. Just because an app isn't in the Canadian store doesn't mean it won't function.

There are though apps only available through the Canada store, and apps only available through the US store, and, similarly, promotions and shows.

+1 to the idea of having accounts at both the US and CDN store. I do, and have had both since we moved back from the US 5 years ago. The only weirdness you'll run into is with any updating of (physical) address in your user info, and of course you will need to use US iTunes cards to pay for any purchases, as you won't be able to use a credit card with a Canadian address. I have a bizarre hybrid of my old US address and my current Canadian one in the user info at the US iTunes store - at some point I was forced to update it, so I basically made it up! :)

I have tons of times wanted to purchase an app -- only to have a message saving you have to be in the US store..
so likewise with the Canadian store - the stores do not have universally the same apps - so be careful.

also - not sure if they makes a difference but did on an app I bought.. I prefer US region support because of the date and time settings.. mm/dd/yy vs flipped for canada. [ every one thinks we are french and backwards over here. ]
so the that I bought and needed for my accounting program that refused to function until I changed the region over to Canada - now stuck with backwards date and time settings you can not change..

so be carful with that as well.

just one note that no one here has pointed out.

I have two accounts but now only use the CDN account as I found it a pain in the but to update app's. As I am sure you know App's update all the time, and to update app's you will only update the ones that are in the store you are currently logged into, so if you have some US store apps and some CDN store apps you will have to update for CAN then log out log into your US account then run the update again.

Not a big deal just something you should be aware of, was enough of a pain for me that I don't use my US account any longer.

The only thing is that you can only use one iTunes Match account at a time on an iOS device. For this reason I use my Canadian account exclusively.

You can also stream TV shows and music videos directly from iTunes, and hopefully movies soon as well. Again, you have to be logged onto the account associated with the videos.

I have two accounts because I moved to Canada from the US, where I had an account. IME, it's a rather annoying PITA to have two accounts, but I'm kind of stuck with it.

1. You have to fund the two account separately. No buying an iTunes gift card in Canada and using it towards your US account.
2. Updates. You have to constantly sign OUT of one store and sign back INTO another store to make sure everything is updated.
3. At some point you are GOING to say "I'm getting too old for this crap" and want to consolidate. No way to do so.

That said, there are apps (Zoompass and Echoer to think of two off the top of my head) that don't exist in the US, there are Canadian music selections that don't appear in the US store, there are of course Canadian shows that don't show up in the US store either. Vice versa is of course true as well.

For me the benefits are still outweighing the hassle -- for now -- but if Apple would offer me the chance to consolidate accounts I would in a second, even if I had to re-buy a few things.

I too have two accounts and your idea of a Brit one sounds like something I should do as well. And at 68, I have no issues with a minor switch between two stores now, or three in future for that matter. ;)

Funny thing, when I update directly from my ipad, it seems to switch accounts automatically (or whatever)... When I do it on the computer I have to manually switch accounts... Speaking of itunes, Staples has a $50 card on sale for $40 right now (May 17)
