You're going to have to elaborate on "application passwords".

If you want to extract Keychain passwords, then you can play around with the security command, which handles Keychain (and other) systems.

There's a good man page for it as well.

I was referring to applications such as Skype, Itunes etc... any application that i've logged onto on my macbook that maybe the terminal keeps a record of to retrieve the password that was used.

Terminal doesn't log anything. It merely provides an interface for accessing the subsystems that make up OS X.

If you don't know what you're doing, don't use it. You can break pretty much everything.

If you're just looking for passwords, try Keychain Access in /Applications/Utilities.
