For the most part, Mac2Sell is pretty reliable, but I noticed a few things. MacBook Air with C2D 1.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, 64GB SSD, basically last generation's base model, is valued at $360. That seems like a slap in the face to me. Even worse is the current gen MacBook Air (i5 1.6Ghz, 2GB RAM, 64GB SSD), valued at $580. It's as if Mac2Sell is only looking at the hard numbers, and not considering that it's a thin factor sub notebook.

Looking for one for my wife btw. Asking price for a previous gen is $650 (out of warranty) to $800 (AppleCare until Feb. 2014) or $928 taxes in I can get a current gen refurb from Apple Store with one year of AppleCare. She doesn't need the speed of the newer model, but she may appreciate the backlit keyboard.

Mac2Sell consistently undervalues everything. I'm not sure what the point of looking there is at all.

The fact is that many Mac users here keep their products in amazing condition, and Mac2Sell doesn't account for that at all. Do you want somebody's dropped, scratched, dented garbage? They have the price for that.

For fairer pricing, you have to look at things that have sold that are in comparable shape and the same model, etc. Or ask in the Classifieds on ehMac. Keep in mind though that some people will price you down and then make an offer..

I'd buy up anything offered at Mac2Sell prices--then re-sell it at market price.

I'm a buyer, but I would never in my right conscious offer these kinds of prices. I find all the other systems are fair.

Mac2Sell's prices clearly reflect the continuing market penetration of Apple. It's not like the pre-iPhone days where a 4-5 year old machine was worth 80% of its original value. More people are buying, and hence selling, Macs and the resale market is becoming over saturated, combined with rapidly changing hardware technology, today's Macs don't hold their value like they used to; welcome to the resale market as known to "PC" users for years. M2S is low for a good condition machine, for sure, as it's a blended valuation, but, it's not that far off. I didn't even need to negotiate, that was the list price on local CL WITH what remains of 3 years warranty (1 year plus AppleCare).

This is all true. The used Mac market has really sh1t the bed lately and many people haven't seemed to have gotten the memo.

I still think it's holding up well. My 2006 iMac is valued at $500. I expect it to drop significantly once Mountain Lion gets released.

$400 for a 2010 MBA is a steal, despite what Mac2Sell says. With plenty of AppleCare left, wow.

Hmmm... I'd suggest that "value" is about $100.00-$200.00 is too high for a 2006 iMac, especially considering they were generally the old Core Duo models.

I did some checking today for a friend's 78 year old friend who unfortunately has colon cancer and wants to sell her basic 2006 iMac 20" 2 GHZ in perfect condition but with 1 GB RAM and 10.6.8, and she no longer has room for it with her situation, and the realistic selling value I found was about $400.00 as per Mac2Sell Canada and others.

She's asking $350.00 but would go as low as as $100.00 which was the aprox amount that any local Mac dealer would offer to pay to buy only - not as a tradein - then as such, maybe $250.00.

It's still available as I write in case anyone is interested.

I bought my system for $350. lol, It's a C2D model, M2S model when it had the 250GB HD was $460. I agree it is overpriced for a 6 year old system, but for what I paid for it I'm very happy with it. A bit slow sometimes but sadly this is my second most powerful computer I've owned, ever, bested only by a C2D 2.16Ghz MBP. lol.

It seems to overprice older Macs but I also notice that it under values newer systems as others have mentioned. I recently sold a Pismo that i was going to ask $50 for but when I checked Mac2Sell they valued it at $70.

Sometimes it's accurate with newer systems. ie. My girfriend recently had me sell her old white MacBook (08 model) with 4GB RAM and a 500GB WD Scorpio Black. M2S priced it at $465. I asked $430 and had a buyer within a couple hours on CL.
